"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn."
-- John Lubbock
Formatted Lessons are lesson plans that have been put onto WeTheTeachers using the WeTheTeacher layout. They are mainly text-based and will all follow the same format (objectives, procedure, assessment, etc.). The easy to use lesson form allows for quick upload. Teachers are encouraged to use this form for their text lessons because it provides a consistent layout across all disciplines. Perhaps even more importantly, your lessons can be indexed by our search engine and more teachers will be able to find your work!
Why not just upload a Word Document of your lesson instead? You can do this (with file cabinets, see below), but we encourage teachers to take the brief extra time it requires to fill in the lesson form. However, if your lesson contains graphics and other non-text objects, then the formatted lesson is probably not ideal. The File Cabinet is great for graphical resources. Or better yet, put your formatted lesson up and add a link in your lesson to an accompanying worksheet in the file cabinet!
We introduced file cabinets to allow teachers to upload arbitrary resources, not just lesson plans. While you may upload lesson plans in PDF, Word format, etc., we encourage you to copy your lessons using the Formatted Lesson approach (see above). This will allow teachers to better search for lessons, and also provide a consistent layout for everyone to use.
If you have resources that are not lessons, ranging from powerpoint presentations to hall passes, or from frog exams to bingo cards, file cabinets are the place for you! Everything you upload is attached to your profile, and you can include a short description of the file. Your hard work is shared and appreciated by everyone on the site, and you can monitor how many teachers have downloaded your files, as well as rate and receive feedback!
